The Helotes Humane Society is a non profit organization dedicated to placing unwanted animals in loving homes. Remember, don't shop, adopt! Ranch dog who loves water *** Alister qualifies for our Ranch Dog Program because of his desire to work and his skills as an avid toad hunter. He is a great protector and will learn to hunt anything else you want him to. Ranch dogs can be adopted at a special adoption rate. *** Alister is a sweet boy who is EXCELLENT with children of all ages. He never nips, growls, or flinches when his toddler human plays with or climbs on him. He stays perfectly still and calm and would make a wonderful companion for any kid to grow up with. He also enjoys a nice morning run around the yard with his pals and hanging out with the family. He is crate-trained and house-trained. He does pretty well on a leash and will be your favorite running buddy. He is an excellent listener and redirects easily when needed. Alister's favorite thing in the whole world is water and he prefers to be sprayed directly in the face with the hose so he can catch the water with his mouth. Deep down, he really believes he is a fish and would love to swim with his family. He will find water on nearly any surface to play with if left to his own devices, but promises not to mess with the freshly watered plants as long as he has his very own kiddie pool to play in. Being the Jack-of-all-trades he is, Alister is also keen on bird-watching and chasing. He enjoys chasing after toys, as well, and this 'ball-drive' makes him a wonderful candidate for hunting or service work. Since he is extremely intelligent, he will learn these jobs, or any tricks, with ease. Alister has shown interest in defending our property against 'strange threats' and would make an excellent guard dog, as he seems aware of what truly might be a threat (i.e. alerting about concerns from outside the property, alerting about bugs that are definitely not allowed in the house, and tattling on a certain little foster who escaped her kennel and pottied on the floor in the night). He loves attention and 'attaboys', and entertains himself with toys and chew hooves. His favorite kind of toys are the stuffed animals that he can rip to shreds. He almost always remembers not to 'borrow' the kid toys and just stick to the dog toys, but every once in a while, he forgets. Alister is about 11 months old, up-to-date on all his shots, neutered, and microchipped. He can be adopted with his sister Corabelle, or separately. Alister and Corabelle's Story... Alister and Corabelle were found, probably dumped, on a country road in Atascosa, Texas. Alister, the 'big brother' was wandering along the edge of the road, near the overgrown grass, weeds, bushes, and treeline. With the many many strays out in the country, I didn't think much of it until we got closer and I could see he was only about 9 weeks old, only about 2 weeks older than our own foster litter at home. When I got out of the car to get him, his sister Corabelle came out of the overgrown weeds. Both pups were very hungry, smelly, and suffering from mange. I placed them into my car on the floorboard and they curled up and went right to sleep. They slept the whole trip home and practically inhaled food and water as soon as we arrived. They had a bath and then they curled up and went right back to sleep. These very bonded siblings have stayed by each other's side and cared for each other during their journey back to health. Both have undergone treatment for mange and are now 'fit for duty'. Corabelle was in worse shape than Alister, probably because of her petite size, but even she doubled her coat within about 2 days after her treatment. Both pups have perked up quite a bit and love to play together. They are always happy to eat and drink water, constantly wagging their tails. These babies are lucky to be alive and we can tell they are very thankful. For more information about Alister, please contact his foster directly at [email removed].
